Picking the right tile size can make or break your bathroom design, especially in Irish homes, where space or layout often shape the final look. Small tiles (like mosaics and traditional 10x10cm or 15x15cm squares) are perfect for adding texture, slip-resistance, and detail especially in showers, on splashbacks, or for intricate borders. They work well in tight spaces and can help mask uneven surfaces often found in older Irish houses. Keep in mind, more grout lines means a bit more upkeep.
Medium-sized tiles (typically 30x30cm, 30x60cm, or similar) offer a great balance for Irish bathrooms. They’re “just right” for most floor spaces and walls: not too busy, not too plain. Medium tiles make small- to medium-sized bathrooms feel tidy and open, and they’re easier to lay with fewer grout lines.
Large format tiles (like 60x60cm, 60x120cm, or even bigger) can create an ultra-modern, seamless look and help open up even a small bathroom by reducing visual clutter. Fewer grout lines mean less maintenance and a more streamlined finish, ideal for contemporary extensions or newly built homes. However, large tiles need flatter, more carefully prepared surfaces for a flawless fit.

• For compact ensuites, smaller or medium tiles will prevent the room from feeling cramped.
• In open-plan or larger bathrooms, large tiles create hotel-style luxury.
• Test samples: sometimes a tile looks much larger or smaller once you see it.
• Always think about slip-resistance for floors, especially in wet zones.
